I am a professional beauty therapist and non-invasive aesthetic practitioner with an advanced knowledge of the beauty industry.

As we transition from the warm, sunny days of summer to the cooler, crisper air of autumn, it’s important to adjust our skincare routine accordingly.

In today’s blog post I want to guide you through the top 5 professional facial treatments that are perfect for the autumn season.

The treatments you will read about today, are designed to help your skin recover from summer damage and prepare for the colder months ahead.

At my beauty studio, Beauty by Joanna Bojarska, I offer these treatments to help you achieve healthy, glowing skin.

Why Autumn is the Ideal Season for Exfoliation

Autumn is the perfect time of year to focus on exfoliation. During summer, our skin is exposed to higher levels of UV rays, which can lead to sun damage, pigmentation, and a build-up of dead skin cells. Exfoliation helps to remove these dead cells, revealing fresher, smoother skin underneath. It also prepares the skin to absorb more moisture, which is crucial as we move into the drier winter months.

However, it’s important to understand that the treatments I’m discussing are professional-grade. This means they are much more potent than over-the-counter products and should only be performed by a trained professional. I always recommend consulting with a skincare expert before trying any new treatments, especially if you are considering at-home chemical peels.

1. Mandelic Resurfacer

Mandelic acid is a gentle yet effective exfoliant that has been used in skincare since the 1990s. It is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds. What makes mandelic acid unique is its larger molecular structure compared to other AHAs, which means it penetrates the skin more slowly and gently. This makes it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

The Mandelic Resurfacer treatment is particularly beneficial for those dealing with rough skin texture, enlarged pores, and mild hyperpigmentation (dark spots). It is also known for its antibacterial properties, which can help reduce acne breakouts. Additionally, mandelic acid stimulates collagen production, which helps to improve the skin’s firmness and elasticity.

During the treatment, you may feel a slight tingling sensation, which is normal. After the treatment, you might experience some mild flaking of the skin for a few days. This is simply your skin shedding dead cells to reveal a fresher, smoother layer beneath.

2. 25% Glycolic Resurfacer

Glycolic acid is another well-known AHA that has been widely used in skincare since the 1970s. It is derived from sugar cane and is the smallest AHA molecule, allowing it to penetrate the skin quickly and deeply. This makes it very effective at exfoliating the skin and improving its overall texture.
In this treatment, I use a combination of 20% glycolic acid and 5% SkinPerf LWG acids. These acids are encapsulated in a special gel that allows for gradual penetration into the skin. This reduces the risk of irritation, making the treatment more comfortable while still being highly effective.

The 25% Glycolic Resurfacer is ideal for mature skin, which may be showing signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. It is also beneficial for those with adult acne or uneven skin tone. At my studio, I often combine this glycolic acid peel with microneedling, a treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-channels in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process. This combination leaves the skin looking smooth, radiant, and youthful.

3. Pumpkin Peel

The Pumpkin Peel is a seasonal favourite and is particularly popular during the autumn months. This treatment uses a blend of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids, along with pumpkin pulp and orange plant stem cells. Pumpkin is rich in vitamins A and C, as well as enzymes that help to exfoliate and nourish the skin.

The Pumpkin Peel is highly effective at addressing dullness, uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. It helps to brighten the complexion and improve the overall texture of the skin. However, before undergoing this treatment, it’s important to properly prepare your skin, which may involve using specific skincare products in the weeks leading up to the peel. After the treatment, you can expect some mild to moderate flaking as your skin renews itself.

4. Retinol Infusion

Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, is one of the most powerful ingredients in skincare. It is widely used for its ability to promote cell turnover, which helps to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and prevent acne. The DermaQuest Retinol Infusion treatment is designed to deliver these benefits in a professional, controlled setting.

This treatment is excellent for reviving dull, lifeless skin and providing an instant boost of radiance. Unlike some other treatments, the Retinol Infusion does not require any prior skin preparation, making it a great option if you need a quick pick-me-up before a special event. After the treatment, your skin will look plump, smooth, and hydrated, with a noticeable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

5. C Infusion Peel

The C Infusion Peel is one of my favourite treatments for its powerful anti-aging and brightening effects. This peel is unique because it penetrates beyond the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) to reach the dermis, where it stimulates collagen production and promotes overall skin health.

This peel contains ferulic acid, orange stem cells, and a variety of plant extracts that are rich in antioxidants. These ingredients help to protect the skin from environmental damage, improve skin tone, and provide deep hydration. The C Infusion Peel is particularly effective for treating dull, uneven skin tones and preventing the signs of aging.

However, this treatment does require some downtime. After the peel, your skin will go through a phase of flaking and peeling, which typically lasts 5 to 7 days. During this time, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated and avoid sun exposure. Once this phase passes, you’ll be left with smooth, glowing skin that looks and feels refreshed.

These are my top 5 professional facial treatments for autumn, each offering unique benefits to help your skin look and feel its best during this season. Whether you’re looking to address specific skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, fine lines, or acne, or simply want to refresh and rejuvenate your complexion, there’s a treatment here that’s right for you.
